This bowl is unique and special because it was created from the burl of a sugar maple tree.  A burl is a growth bulging from the trunk or branches of a tree.  Burls usually contain wood with lots of swirls and mixed patterns.  These burls are tricky to turn, but often become stunning bowls which are usually treated at decorative pieces.  This is definitely a 'one of a kind' piece that is finished with a non-toxic beeswax based product.
